If you often combine pavement and paths, try a road-to-trail shoe and take a few steps on a hard floor.<\/p><h3>Wet shale<\/h3><p>Loose fragments can roll underfoot. Shorten your stride and walk if the descent forces you to brake hard. When trying shoes, check heel hold and toe room. Taller lugs alone do not solve either problem.<\/p><h3>Sticky mud<\/h3><p>If mud fills the grooves, look at the spacing between lugs as well as their depth. For one short muddy section, slowing down or choosing another route may be enough. Stay on permitted paths.<\/p><section data-tripp-exemple=\"4249\"><h2>A puddle first, then wet chalk<\/h2><p>You can walk around the puddle, but the next descent is narrow and slick. If footing is doubtful, slow down or choose another route. On an easy section, notice whether the outsole slipped or your foot shifted inside the shoe. Those sensations point to different things to compare.<\/p><figure style=\"margin:20px 0;padding:16px;background:#edf5f4;border:1px solid #cbdcdd;border-radius:10px\"><figcaption style=\"font-weight:bold;color:#02616B\">Three things to check<\/figcaption><ol style=\"display:grid;grid-template-columns:repeat(auto-fit,minmax(min(100%,165px),1fr));gap:10px;padding:0;list-style-position:inside;margin:10px 0 0\"><li style=\"padding:10px;background:#fff;border-radius:6px\">Soft mud: check for build-up<\/li><li style=\"padding:10px;background:#fff;border-radius:6px\">Wet hard surface: look at the outsole<\/li><li style=\"padding:10px;background:#fff;border-radius:6px\">Exposed slope: take the easier option<\/li><\/ol><\/figure><\/section>\n<h2>Before replacing your shoes<\/h2><p>On an open, gentle section, notice whether you lose confidence on landing, pushing off or braking. Check whether mud covers the tread or whether it looks worn.
