DNA Gold, DNA Flash v2 and SpeedVault plate

Hyperion Max 4 combines a PEBA-based DNA Gold upper layer with a firmer DNA Flash v2 carrier. The nylon SpeedVault plate structures the platform and limits longitudinal flex. The result is firmer and more mechanical than a classic neutral trainer and works best as pace increases.

Rapid Roll Rocker helps the shoe roll forward and keeps transitions smooth despite the high stack and stiffness.

Ride by session

Tempo and threshold

This is its strongest use. The rigid platform becomes useful when the runner loads the forefoot enough to exploit the plate and rocker.

Long fast runs

The generous cushioning is more protective than a pure racing shoe, making it relevant for marathon-pace or half-marathon-pace blocks.

Easy running

It can be used slowly, but its stiffness and weight feel less natural at very easy pace.

Choose Hyperion Max 4 if you enjoy a firm and locked-in platform. The Mach X 3 feels more rolling and compliant.

Who should choose it?

  • neutral runners preparing for half marathon or marathon;
  • runners wanting a durable fast-training shoe;
  • athletes who prefer a firm, rigid platform;
  • narrow-to-medium feet.

It is less suitable for wide feet, runners wanting high flexibility or those prioritising minimum weight.

Fit and sizing

The fit is relatively snug, especially around the forefoot. Check vertical and lateral toe space carefully. Some runners may prefer a half-size up, but dynamic testing remains best.

Tripp Sport technical verdict

Hyperion Max 4 is a robust, protective and highly structured super-trainer. It is not the lightest in its class, but its stability, secure fit and rigidity can work very well for long fast sessions.

Independent measurements

RunRepeat measured an actual 9.6 mm drop, clearly above Brooks' stated 6 mm. Doctors of Running reports about 45 mm heel / 39 mm forefoot and roughly 286 g in a men's reference size.

RunRepeat also measured high torsional rigidity at 19.1 Nm, confirming a very structured ride.

FAQ

Is the plate carbon?

No. Brooks uses a nylon SpeedVault plate.

Can it be used for a marathon?

Yes, especially for runners prioritising protection and stability over minimum weight.

Is it suitable for wide feet?

The fit is relatively narrow, so trying it on is strongly recommended.
