For us, the Mafate 5 shows its strengths most clearly on long and technical trails, when comfort and protection become more important than keeping weight to an absolute minimum.
TRIPP SPORT advice
Before a long technical trail, test the Mafate 5 on a short loop with stones and off-camber ground. Get used to its generous cushioning and rocker during changes of footing. Check downhill heel hold and leave room for your toes. If using compatible gaiters with the attachment points, test the setup before racing. The 5 mm lugs suit trails: warm up on natural ground when your route allows.
